Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had led some to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
